America became a world leader in music as well as economics and business, Broadway musicals developed through the work of composers such as George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, and Richard Rogers. Popular singers like Bing Crosby recorded songs from shows, films and tin pan alley composers all of which have become part of what is known as The Great American Songbook.
